I was born in 1950 in NYC where I began drawing, sitting with my mother in the sunlit kitchen, when I was a tiny child. The first art classes I took were at the Brooklyn Museum of Art around 1959. In 1963 I was accepted into the High School of Music and Art. After leaving home I moved to San Francisco where I went to the San Franciso Art Institute, majoring in Painting and a minor in Drawing and spent my last year there in the Honors Program. During 1993-94 I went back to school to study Photography at Arizona State University.
I have always maintained a studio in my home. Over the years I have shown with some of the San Francisco Visionaries as well as becoming known in the South of Market art scene in the late 1970s.
I now live in very rural Arizona and spend my time working with rescued animals, writing and am currently working on the HerChurch Mural.
The work shared within this website covers a small segment of over 40 years of work.
My primary love is oil paint. What I consider to be my "important" paintings have always been created in oils, often on fiberglas forms I hand build and design for the specific subject.
When younger I had made a personal study of Renaissance layering style in painting. I create all paintings in this manner.
In creating the HerChurch Mural I have been working with water based outdoor enamels which are very much like acyrlic paints.
I enjoy drawing and have worked in pen and ink, colored penscils, as well as doing smaller pieces of art in acrylics and gouache.
In addition to creating visual art have always been a writer. Many of the major works have poetry as part of the "studies" done before hand. Currently I am working on a book called "MEN" which is a memoir told through the experiences I had with the men in my life, from my father to my husband, Jeff.
Animals have always been a huge part of my life. For the past twenty plus years I have been involved in the Animal Sanctuary movement as well as being active in Animal Welfare and Rights. In 1994 I founded The Oasis Sanctuary, a parrot sanctuary. Currently my husband and I have started and run an animal rescue predominantly for senior, handicapped and special needs dogs rescue.
